Historic First: UAE Sisters Taabia and Mysha Omar Set to Shine at 2026 BWF World Championships in Paris
The United Arab Emirates is making history in the world of badminton as dynamic sister duo Taabia Omar (19) and Mysha Omar (16) prepare to compete at the prestigious 2026 BWF World Championships. This landmark achievement marks the first time UAE athletes will participate in badminton's most celebrated annual tournament, scheduled from August 25-31 at Paris' spectacular Adidas Arena.
This watershed moment not only elevates the UAE's standing in international badminton but also serves as powerful inspiration for young athletes across the nation, demonstrating how dedication and talent can break new ground in sports development.
Taabia Omar brings formidable credentials to this historic appearance. The teenage phenom currently holds the world #1 ranking in women's doubles on the BWF World Junior circuit while maintaining an impressive #2 position in mixed doubles competition. Her rapid ascent has made her one of Asian badminton's most exciting young prospects.
The younger Mysha, who will celebrate her 17th birthday later this year, has already etched her name among badminton's elite juniors. Previously ranked world #10 in both women's singles and doubles (partnering with sister Taabia), she achieved international stardom by capturing the girls' singles title at the prestigious 2024 All-England Junior Championships - a crowning achievement that followed earlier doubles triumphs with her sister.
"This represents a transformative moment for Emirati sports," declared Noura Hassan Al Jasmi, President of UAE Badminton Federation. "Taabia and Mysha have shown what our youth can accomplish through perseverance and national support. As they become our standard-bearers on sport's grandest stage, they carry with them the aspirations of every young athlete dreaming big across our nation."
